Vancouver’s Granville Island – Top Destination for Locals and Tourists!

A familiar West Coast site for local Vancouverites is the North Shore mountains, the quintessential Vancouver buildings and our Famous False Creek Seawall.  Granville Island, a familiar shopping stop for all, and a familiar local hangout for everyone of all ages and backgrounds shares in Vancouver’s understated elegance mixed with local pride and West Coast charm.

A large part of Vancouver is walking and exploring the neighborhoods, (yes…even in the rain) and visiting our False Creek Seawall which is basically the central hub of Vancouver.  False Creek is an inlet that separates the city from East – West and North – South.  From trendy downtown Yaletown you can take the Aquabus for a few dollars that will take you through the inlet to one of several stops and at the surrounding neighborhoods.

The Vancouver Aquabus stops at the following 8 inner-city locations:

  • Hornby Street
  • Granville Island
  • David Lam Park
  • Stamps Landing
  • Spyglass Place
  • Yaletown
  • Plaza of Nations
  • Olympic Village / Science World

So whether you’ve arrived to Granville Island via Vancouver Bike Rentals, Aquabus, car or simply walking along the seawall, you will find a plethora of things to see at one of Vancouver’s most iconic destinations.

It is here where visitors will have the opportunity to browse through many artisan shops  with a large selection of gifts to buy for others or even yourself.  Many beautiful pieces to purchase for your home can also be purchased here and everything is hand crafted by local artists. Stunning items for viewing and purchasing are available such as Aboriginal art, home decor and accessories, paintings, furniture, jewelry and fashion, metal work, wood work, ceramics, printmaking, floral and toys.

However, one thing Granville Island is truly symbolic for is the Amazing Art Galleries that make Vancouver the artsy city that it is.

The Public Market is a major stop as well.. here you will find delicious international foods, a florist, artisans, sweets, specialty food shops, very fresh produce… and lots of it!!  My two regular stops…. as in I cannot leave Granville Island without it…. are Bon Macaron Patisserie Ltd. and The Granville Island Tea Company.  It truly is amazing how well the two go together and as if it were meant to be….. these two of my favorite shops are right across from each other!

A trip to Granville Island also would not be complete without a ‘quick’ stop at the spectacularly super fun Granville Island Kids Market. Tons more shops for the adults and the Granville Island Adventure Zone for the kids will keep everyone happy many several hours!

Whether you’re roaming around in the sun..or strolling along in our infamous rain, Granville Island is always an excellent place to visit and see what Vancouverites do on their days off!

Definitely make Granville Island your destination on your next trip to our beautiful city!
